River East Church to tell the story of its biblical and theological foundations for inclusion

How does River East justify its decision to become welcoming and affirming of LGBTQ+ people theologically? And what about the Bible?

To answer those questions, the church is inviting people to come hear its “Story of our Biblical and Theological Foundations for Inclusion” on January 14.

According to Janet Schmidt, who helped organize the November 26 event where the church shared its story about its journey to inclusion, they are holding the January 14 meeting because it has been asked both publicly and privately to explain its thinking on those topics.

It also wants to do it because “we value transparency and would like to share our thinking with those in our family of faith,” she said.

The meeting, which takes place a week before the Mennonite Brethren Church of Manitoba votes on its membership in the conference (on January 20), is both in person at the church and on Zoom. It starts at 7:00 PM CST.
